FAPAC Scholarship Endowment Fund
Dalip Singh Saund Distinguished Public Service Scholarship

For the past many years, FAPAC has awarded a number of scholarships and internships to Asian Pacific American college students who exhibit excellent academic achievement as well as demonstrated a continuous effort to foster diversity and community service to the Asian Pacific American community. This year’s award is given under the newly established FAPAC Endowment Fund in honor of the first Asian Pacific American elected to Congress – the late Dalip Singh Saund. The award will be given to a student on May 8, 2013 in Long Beach, CA during the FAPAC National Leadership Training Program. The awardee will receive a stipend of $5,000 towards his or her education. Future awards will also be given out in honor of former Secretaries Elaine L. Chao and Norman Y. Mineta.

- Submit a letter of recommendation with detailed description of your service to foster diversity and inclusion in the Asian and Pacific American community
- Submit a copy of transcript from a U.S. accredited college(s) attended
- Submit a two page essay on the contributions of Congressman Dalip Singh Saund and your goal in public service

Childhood Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program

The American Cancer Society Cancer Survivor College Scholarship Program gives young cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education from an accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school.

All scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the American Cancer Society volunteer scholarship committee, and are based on the following weighted criteria:

What you have to do:
- Have 3 letters of recommendation, including one from a teacher or school counselor and one from a physician.
- Essay of 500 words or less stating how a scholarship from the American Cancer Society will help further your academic career. Include your educational, occupational, and personal goals in the essay. Typewritten essays are strongly preferred.
- A copy of your academic transcripts from grades 9-12 and if applicable, your college/university academic transcripts.
- Letter of acceptance to an accredited university, college, community college, or vocational technical school (when available).
- The American Cancer Society Financial Aid Form.
- Copy of the first two pages of your parents’ (and yours if you were employed) 2011 IRS tax form.
- Completed Student Volunteer Form (only past recipients re-applying for scholarship).
Eligibility:
- Must be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21. Applicants must be age 25 or younger at the time of application.
- Scheduled to graduate from high school and/or continuing college in the upcoming school year.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington or Wyoming.
- Accepted without condition to an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school.
- Must have a 2.5 GPA or above.
- Must become a full time student at an accredited university, college, community college or vocational technical school in the upcoming academic year.
Criteria for selection:
All scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the American Cancer Society volunteer scholarship committee, and are based on the following weighted criteria:
- Financial Need: (50% weight) – Based on a composite of family/student income and assets, number in household, unpaid medical bills, others in the family attending college and other scholarships/grants.
- Community Service/Activities: (20% weight) – Based on a composite of extracurricular activities, community involvement, any honors or awards received, and involvement with the American Cancer Society.
- Goals and Leadership Essay: (15% weight) – Based on a composite of long-term career plans, determination to reach goals, expression, and organization of thought.
- Letters of Recommendation: (9% weight) – Based on a composite of the three provided recommendations.
- Grade Point Average: (6% weight)

About the scholarship:
Eligible Golden Door Scholars will receive funding to cover tuition, room & board (less other scholarships) for a four-year degree. Preference will be given to students interested in the Math, Science, Technology and Engineering fields. Ronald McDonald House Charites U.S. Scholarships

Eligibility:
- Be a Utah resident;
- Be a current high school senior planning on entering an accredited college or university as a full-time, degree-seeking student;
- Have attained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If the GPA is less than 3.0, the applicant is still eligible but must submit an explanation for the lower GPA;
- Have proof of strong commitment to civil liberties through some form of activism addressing such issues as equality, racial justice, free speech, religious freedom, tolerance, and privacy.
Students who complete the application forms will be judged on the following standards:
- The strength and depth of the candidate’s contributions to civil liberties
- Demonstrated leadership
- The likelihood of the applicant continuing commitment to civil liberties in the future
- Commitment to academic excellence
- Demonstrated financial need
